ICSSS2022

Class of 2023

The 8th edition of the International Cyber Security Summer School took place from 20-25 August 2023. 60 students from over 20 countries participated in this week-long programme. The participants followed multidisciplinary lectures with a technical, legal, governance and social science view on different areas of cyber threats and opportunities. The lectures were provided by cybersecurity experts from public, private, and knowledge institutions. They covered various topics at the individual, organizational and government levels such as different aspects of insider threat, defending against state actors, developments in the world of ransomware, supply chain security and OT security.

Collaboration

During the Summer School students took part in collaborative activities, such as  the wargame on insider threat from Booz Allen Hamilton, and the KPMG Nederland workshop on OT Security. Participants from diverse backgrounds and countries worked alongside each other to solve real-world cybersecurity problems. They learned to incorporate other perspectives into their work, gained new skills, and saw the value of teamwork.

Innovative solutions to cybersecurity challenges

Throughout this week the students were given time to prepare and present solutions to challenges provided by Accenture, Awareways, Booz Allen Hamilton, ICTRecht, NCI Agency and Universiteit Leiden. The result was a collection of innovative solutions to contemporary problems in the field of cybersecurity.

Onsite visits

During the International Cyber Security Summer School participants visited the headquarters of a few of our partners such as NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency), Europol and Accenture. During these visits students were given a taste of the security field through lectures and presentations, as well as the possibility to interact with different experts in the field.

Connecting

Students were also able to get to know each other and connect during more informal moments as the BBQs at the beach, the campus lunches, the networking opportunities and the final drink to close ICSSS 2023 properly and say goodbye to fellow students and the participating partners who were also present. The world of cybersecurity is a small and diverse world, and having a strong network within that community is vital.
