What was the most valuable part of the summer school for you?
While the ICSSS was fruitful in every regard, the most valuable component for me was the practical challenge. Since I do not have a background in cybersecurity, gaining hands-on experience through a realistic cybersecurity challenge complemented the theoretical material and made cybersecurity more tangible.
What did the summer school bring you (knowledge, network, insight, etc.)?
The ICSSS was a very intensive week for all of us. To me, that proves how valuable and educational it is. The lectures provided theoretical knowledge, new insights, and introduced us to contemporary issues, debates, and relevant actors in the cyber domain. The practical challenges provided students with hands-on experience in a cybersecurity issue. The diversity of the group — students and professionals at different stages of their careers, from different countries and backgrounds — contributed substantially to my learning curve and understanding of the cyber domain. Besides, ICSSS’s events — BBQs, drinks, organisation visits, and a conference — also enabled us to really get to know each other beyond the classroom.
What would you say to someone who's on the fence about signing up?
The fact you are considering this summer school means you already are in the right place. If you decide to take the leap and sign up, I am confident that ICSSS will not only be professionally rewarding, but also give you the opportunity to make new friends and expand your network.
